Dynamic Environmental Accounting

Environmental assessments are highly time-dependent.

Influencing factors include:

  • Manufacturing process
  • Materials and resources
  • Transportation routes and methods
  • Energy sources
  • Supply chains
  • Operational procedures
  • Emission factors
  • CO2 pricing

Environmental assessments, therefore, have a limited validity period and require regular updates. This ensures that achieved sustainability goals and tax implications are always accurately reflected.

Need-to-Know Principle:
Targeted CO2 Balances for Specific Audiences

  • Product Carbon Footprints – “Cradle to Gate” for manufacturing and the entire supply chain
  • Lifecycle Environmental Assessment – “Cradle to Grave” for a specific on-site use scenario
  • Brief Report – Highlighting the essential environmental characteristics of the product core
  • Eco Pitch – For qualitative overviews and process structures

Benefits: Timeliness and Differentiation

  • Differentiated reporting, tailored for management, teams, and financial partners
  • Data and insights for better competitive positioning
  • Improved financing conditions with banks
  • Simplified application for grants•
  • Foundation for certification
  • Compliance with reporting obligations
  • 360-degree view of the product’s environmental characteristics
  • Minute-by-minute visualization through clear and concise dashboards

Example:
Dynamic Environmental Lifecycle Assessment of a Swiss Army Knife Let’s consider the production and lifecycle of a Swiss Army knife as an example: The Ecoflexx Sustainability Management supports the manufacturing company in determining the CO2 emissions for the knife’s production, distribution, operation (including warranty and service), and disposal or recycling at the end of its life. When data and facts from different knife manufacturers and products are available, they can be compared based on consistent criteria in terms of €-based metrics (TCOCO2).

Process Definition

  • Audits with process owners
  • Documentation of process steps and existing data sources

AI empowered Process Defintion

  • AI research and benchmarks
  • Reference processes for usage in the ESG data space

2 Production

  • Determination of individual emissions during the process

  • Determination of emissions from direct suppliers

Supply Chain

  • Determination of emissions from suppliers and sub-suppliers, all the way back to the raw material.

Lifecycle

  • Determination of the following emissions:
  • Production and supply chain (see 2 and 3)
  • Transport to distribution site
  • Operation (not applicable here)
  • End of life
  • Separation of components
  • Disposal of non-recyclable components
  • Recycling of recyclable components

Applications

  • Current environmental lifecycle assessment
  • Comparison of emissions in the production of different product variants, processes, and supply chains
  • Determination of procurement and lifecycle costs before making purchase decisions

Product Features

  • ESG Data Space: The ESG Data Space serves as a central repository for storing and managing carbon footprints and emissions. It enables the secure, pseudonymized storage of data required for sustainability analyses. Additionally, it offers the ability to import data from third-party systems for comprehensive analysis.
  • Viewer/Composer: These two tools are used for visualizing, capturing, and editing footprints and emissions. They allow the combination of different emission types, such as material, logistics, and energy, with the corresponding emission factors. The Composer calculates CO2 emissions and their costs based on this data. Additionally, these tools provide the capability to store documentation that supports the calculations and results.
  • Reporter: The Reporter generates Product Carbon Footprints and reports that list footprints and emissions along the entire supply chain, as well as assign emissions to the different lifecycle phases of a product.
  • Dashboard: The dashboard provides an at-a-glance view of the top 5 emission drivers and the total emissions through clear and concise graphics.
  • Ecoflexx Portal: Flexible access to sustainability and third-party software. Includes modules such as Viewer, Composer, Reporter, and integration with third-party systems. Additional features include guided tours, custom boards, and websites.
  • Custom Extensions:
  • Sustainable Procurement: Modules for tenders and a bidder portal. Comparative evaluation of offers based on the Composer and PCF Lifecycle Report.
  • Viral Supply Chains: Integration of suppliers into the emissions data collection process through digital questionnaires. Controlled transfer of data into the ESG Data Space.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Virtual advisors for creating reference processes, benchmarks, supporting the decarbonization process, and supplier research.
